The legionary as a craftsman
The craftsman's house is now home to a woodworking shop and a blacksmith's shop. The reconstruction refers to the typical buildings along the main streets in a legionary camp. These multi-purpose buildings could be open or closed. Here, legionaries and auxiliary soldiers engaged in various craft activities. In the craftsmen's house, different craftsmen worked together and coordinated their activities. In the wood workshop, everyday objects, tools or weapons were made. These included, for example, components for the wood-earth wall, fortress weapons such as wooden spears and wooden swords, or pieces of furniture. Today, carpentry work is displayed here in workshops or on special occasions. Metals were handled in the forge. Important parts of the Roman construction site such as tools, nails or hinges were made here.
